New U12 Coaching programme to begin this week
The Waterford GAA Déise Óg U12 Pilot Regional Coaching Program aims to provide regional and local developmental opportunities for boys born in 2009. This will align with Cumann na mBunscol & Clubs in the region to begin the process of skill development in both codes while also providing players the opportunity to compete in regional blitzes. The first sessions of the Déise Óg Regional Coaching Initiative will be taking place in the Western Division next Wednesday September 22nd at 3:30pm.
Coaching Officer Eoin Morrissey believes this to be an important addition to the good structures already put in place for our academy squads “running this prior to the commencement of U13 Academy squads should assist in the widening of the pool of players exposed to additional training & games while not impacting on club training and activities over the Autumn/Winter period. It’s also brilliant that we can work with Juvenile Clubs & Cumann na mBunscol in identifying teachers, club coaches and other volunteers to assist in the running of this. The coaching will be ran by GDA’s, teachers and volunteers on a once a month basis in each division alternating in both Hurling and Football. We are also looking at giving clubs who traditionally do not host these events the opportunity to do so. If anyone in your club wishes to help out with the coaching or are interested in hosting please contact any of the GDA’s”
We will have 1 session per GDA Division per month and the programme will continue up until Easter 2022. Venues will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Clubs have been contacted inviting parents to register their son in the program by contacting their local GDA.
