Déise Óg Strength & Conditioning Internships: New Positions
Waterford GAA is currently inviting new applications for the position for the voluntary Strength & Conditioning Intern to begin in October 2021 moving on to being involved with a squad as soon as they begin training. This is an excellent opportunity to work under the guidance of our vastly experienced Strength & Conditioning Co-Ordinator.
These roles will form part of the work being done with our Déise Óg Academy Squads which will evolve over the coming months into an indoor gym program and home based programs to be monitored by the interns and our Athletic Development Coordinator. The academy work group have been examining all areas related to underage squads and this area has been one of the stand out successes of 2021. Chairman of the group Jason Ryan commented on the great benefit for both intern and Déise Óg
“This is an exciting opportunity for interns to work as part of a S&C team with clear focus and goals to help develop our young hurlers and footballers. Interns roles will centre around delivery and supervision of strength development sessions in local gyms. Real hands on S&C internships that provide support and structure throughout are hard to come by”
Speaking about his experience so far Sean Cleary of the Erin’s Own GAA and WIT who is studying Recreation and Sports Management said ;
“I’ve gained great experience from working within the u14 team environment. Whilst being able to use testing equipment on the counties best players underage. Working within a coaching team with plenty of different ideas to learn from. Definitely a worth while learning experience”
