Jim Power U14 Football Tournament Finals Sat 23rd July
After a Covid-19 enforced break in 2020 & 2021 it was great to have the return of the Jim Power Tournament for U14 Football Development Squads return on Saturday 11th June. The long wait was certainly worth with as the tournament came back bigger and better than previously. This years tournament takes place over 2 days Sat 11th June & Sat 23rd July.
This Saturday 23rd July 14 teams will be coming to Waterford for the Finals Day where we will have Cup, Shield, Plate and Trophy competitions. The tournament is being run by Bord na nÓg, Déise Óg with the support of the Power Family for which we are very grateful.
We were delighted to have the official launch of the competition along with the draws for the finals recently. It was great to be joined by Theresa Power, wife of the late Jim, and many of her family for the draw. Theresa remarked how delighted the family were with the expanded format for this year and new counties taking part in the tournament for the first time along with a 2nd Waterford team something she had always advocated for.
County Board Chairman Sean Michael O’Regan is looking forward to a wonderful festival of football next Saturday and praised the work being done by all Development Squads to give young players the opportunity to play football for Waterford. Sean and the County Board have given good support this year and in previous years and will continue to do so.
Chairman of Bord na nÓg Eric Furling welcomed the return of the Jim Power tournament and along with his fellow Bord na nÓg Officers is working hard to have everything in place for the Finals Day. He thanked Brickey Rangers, Dungarvan, Kilrossanty & Stradbally for use of their club facilities for the finals.
Games Development Manager Eoin Breathnach outlined the format of the Finals Day where every team will play minimum of 2 games with each venue hosting a final also. Eoin thanked all for the work done so far and the GDA’s who will be venue coordinators on Saturday.
